Breakin’ the Law: 7 Deadly Styles took place last weekend in Madison, WI.

Some of the Strife Crew was fortunate enough to be flown out by the organizers, Jarius King and Katrina Flores, to document and participate in the event. Huuuuuge thanks once again to both of them (and everyone else) who made the event happen.

It’s hard for me to be unbiased about the event; I went to school at UW Madison, have attended every BTL but one, and Jarius “ManofGod” King is a close friend and inspiration as a dancer/organizer/human being. Watching where he’s taken the event (from humble beginnings) over the past years is nothing short of impressive. Attendance-wise it’s easily one of the largest in the country now. And it’s hands down one of the BEST experiences I’ve ever had at an event. There was an incredible sense of community, solidarity, and fun that is all too often lacking at other jams.

Rather than trying to articulate my own intensely personal experience of the event, here’s two reviews/recaps that are a bit less invested/biased and can do the whole event more justice than I can:

Roldare Nation on Bboyworld

And Bboy Justroc (organizer of the Claws Out events) on his blog

Also, more fantastic photography from the event courtesy of Alyssa Macy

We’ll be posting a sort of video recap in the coming weeks, but it’s a bit more ambitious than some of our previous coverage so it’s going to take some time to edit and put together for youtube. We’ll post a few of the battles as well, but the majority of our event footage will be reserved for the DVD. After 7 events and countless hours of footage, I think BTL deserves a quality DVD compilation, so our plan is to work on that later this year and release it at Breakin the Law 8.

Speaking of which….my only advice to those who couldn’t make it out this time, or who have never been: DO NOT MISS IT NEXT YEAR. Seriously.
